Nero, the Weirdest Cat we’ve owned!

Nero. What can I say…He surprises us all the time with the things he does. Especially when we’ve never seen a cat do a particular thing before and I’ve had cats most of my life. Of course, they were also all girls. Well except Titch who was a 21lb black and white tomcat with a siamese meow. Now there’s a tale and a half. Mind my parents ended up having him.

Meet Nero

Nero loves a tummy rub. The one area they tell you not to touch. Nero can’t seem to get enough of the fuss and is a right PURRPOT, rumbling with his feet in the air, looking as cute as a button. Then he is off. Racing the house, like most cats do. However, he’s done a few unusual things too. I think I need to write a book about his adventures.

First big laugh was the night he lay across the back of my chair above my head snoring his head off. I’ve never heard a cat snore never mind the volume. Took me a while to work out what the noise was, mainly due to my lack of hearing. He wasn’t quite like a chainsaw. Anyway, there I was writing, late into the evening and Nero was snoring when he suddenly rolled. Nope, not off the back of the chair…he rolled down behind my neck, belly up, paws up, snoring contently while I giggled and heated up with my gorgeous cat scarf…it’s what he felt like anyway. He ended up stretching out so much he slid off my shoulder and down beside my left arm, much to my amusement and his annoyance. I do wish I had photos of this incident to put it into perspective, sadly my husband was already asleep in bed.

Second big laugh. I can give you photos… Putting it mildly my office is a mess of cardboard. Yep. Nero sits on it, pulls the cardboard apart, and spits it out, piece by piece scattering it over the carpet. I have no clue why, though one friend stated the cardboard has something in it the same as grass and we all know cats love chewing grass. This has now been going on for a few weeks and the cardboard box is getting tatty. Images below of the chewed box.

Have you ever had a conversation with your cat?  What a big baby Nero is. Honestly, you can hold him like a baby and tickle his tummy while he purrs loudly. If you stop he bats your hand or fingers until you start rubbing his tummy again. Considering how scared he was when we adopted him, this looks hilarious. Now, dare I put a beanie hat on his head? Probably not, but maybe one day.

My last conversation with Nero was at about eleven-thirty on Sunday night. We were both sitting in my office, Nero snuggled up beside me as per usual, snoring his little head off when I decided it was time for sleep.  Lowering my recliner chair, Nero jumped down to the floor wandering into the hallway with me following. He slumped to the floor right beside the laundry.

ME: “Really Nero, move it, time for bed.”
NERO: “Nope. I like it fine right here,” he stared at me over his shoulder.
ME: “Buddy, move,” I nudged him with my foot. The little bugger rolled onto his back paws in the air.
NERO: But mum, I like it here,” he waggled his paws at me. I nudged him again and he rolled laying beside the door, still not moving.
ME: Rolls eyes. “You can’t stay there,” I giggled.
NERO: “I don’t wanna move. It’s cold in the lounge.”
ME: “You have fur and a fur basket, you’ll be fine.”
NERO: “It’s warmer with…”
ME: “You keep waking me up at night. Now off you go.” I nudge him once more, he rolls halfheartedly and I close the door. “Night Nero.”
I’m sure he muttered at me as he stalked off to his basket.

For the last few nights, he’s walked to the lounge without a problem…

Have you ever seen a cat with hiccups? I haven’t, it made me giggle a lot. Nero was lying across my stomach when he got them…whoa…weird. Well, that’s all for now. I’ll let you all know if he does anything else funny or unusual.

INTERVIEW WITH INDEPENDENT AUTHOR – BARBARA CHIOFFI

Barbara ChoffiTell us a bit about yourself.
Growing up in North Carolina, I spent my early years playing in the woods, imagining I was a wolf merrily chasing jackrabbits. J Our family moved to Alabama as I entered the 11th grade, living in the house where my father was born. I attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, majoring in Music Ed with a minor in voice. After college and two years teaching in Montgomery, I moved to Virginia, accepted for a teaching position applied for on a lark. It was a good move. Teaching music for almost 40 years, my writing aspirations remained hidden, but my imagination always soared. I visited every place and time imaginable, fascinated by the characters in history. Mama told my sisters and me about the mad monk, Rasputin, plus varied other historical figures. She was a brilliant woman, an avid reader, and an outstanding writer. In her day, there was no Amazon or indie authors, but she was lucky enough to have one of her stories published in a southern literary journal. She has been my inspiration.

What bought you to the world of writing?
I followed my mother’s example, reading everything I could get my hands on, even if it was beyond my understanding. I know that sounds strange, but I did enjoy reading articles on science and space, often reading many times until I had a basic understanding of the subject. I read much of what my mother wrote. She kept journals and I began doing the same, those being a springboard for future stories.

What is your first book and what do you think of it now?
Angel Mine is my first story. I’m a romantic at heart and believe in happy ever afters, and yes, my head is always in the clouds. Jeza and Jackson are my ideal couple, both from failed relationships; they find their true love in each other with just enough intrigue to make it interesting. I’m thinking of redoing it now because I’ve learned a little since then and see things that need changing.

TrickeryWhat type of books do you write and do they fulfil your reader’s needs?
I write what I happen to think of at the moment. My second story is Lycan Love, written after reading shifter novels by Christine Feehan. I wrote Trickery, a trilogy of horror tales, after watching Stephen King, one of mY favourite writers. There is such a wide variety of books available today, and I think some will find mine enjoyable.

Would you like to feature a book, if so which one? Tell us about it?
Lycan Heart formally Lycan Love, begins the story of the Flannery family. Robert Flannery offers a young girl seeking stability a job as a housekeeper. Julia learns the family secret the night she meets Justin, Robert’s son, in his wolf persona. They form an instant bond, and as the story unfolds, other secrets become known, ones that
will result in danger for them all. (UNAVAILABLE AT PRESENT)

How long does it take you to write your first draft?
I write in spurts, usually two or three chapters flow easily, and then I’m stuck for a while. I’m following something interesting I read recently called the ‘snowflake’ method. It seems to be helping me stay on track.

Do you plot or not, if so why?
I don’t write it out but have the idea in my head. I’m finding, though, that preplanning makes all the difference. It’s still difficult for me with my ADHD, but I’m persevering.

Do you write in 1st or 3rd person, or have you do both?
I think there are advantages and disadvantages to both, but I let the character direct me. My WIP began as 1st person, but it didn’t ring, so it’s now in 3rd.

How do you edit your work? Do you leave your draft alone for a while or edit as you write?
I edit when I’m done with a segment, then can never leave it alone. When finished with the story, I still find things to change…never satisfied.

What type of people/readers do you market your books to?
I don’t think of it that way. I write the story as I see it, mainly with the romantic, HEA idea. If I had to choose a genre, it would be paranormal. Fantasy has always been
my escape.

Do you self-publish or have you worked with an Agent/Publisher
Self-publish.

How do you promote your writing?
I’m not good in this area. Basically an introvert, it’s difficult for me to put myself out there. I will post cover reveals on FB and my book release, but that’s about it.

Who are your favourite authors?
Stephen King, Christine Feehan, Karen Marie Moning, C. S. Lewis, Ralph Waldo Emerson, to name a few. There are too many indie authors, and I wouldn’t want to leave anyone out, but I admire so many and value the friendships I’ve developed during this last year.

FOREVER MINE – Cy & Rylan and their five-star AMAZON REVIEW

A Great Story

I want to read the next story. Cy and Ryland’s story was very engaging, deliciously sweet and angsty. It was romantic and saucy. I loved the start because it was refreshingly different too. I shall read the next story.

20 books to earn $50k a year? Snort. I failed this mission – spectacularly. Here’s how. Please learn from my mistakes. Someone should. #WriterWednesday #AuthorToolboxBlogHop #WritingCommunity #AmWriting

A good blog…Learning through your failures…

D.E. Haggerty

I often read about success stories in the writing community. Personally, I learn more from failure than success. Plus, success stories make me turn into the Jolly Green Giant of envy. So, hanging my head in shame, I will share my failures with you today. Please be kind or at least turn away before snickering at my ineptitude.

First of all, a little background in case you haven’t heard of the 20 books to 50k community. It’s somewhat self-explanatory. The idea is – if you have twenty books, you should be able to earn $50,000 a year and retire comfortably in Cabo San Lucas. Not where I’d retire but it’s not my idea either. No, this is the copyrighted brainchild of Michael Anderle. (Interested in learning more? Here’s the link to the FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/20Booksto50k/)

Sounds good, right? I thought so. Only problem is I completely and utterly failed…

AMAZON – Author/Proof Copies

Author/Proof Copies from Amazon

Plaisted Publishing

I know there is a pandemic on…However, this is ridiculous…

I just tried to order my proof/author copies of books recently published. For some reason, I got only six choices of marketplaces.  USA, UK, DE, ES, IT & FR.  Noted a few days ago via a post on Facebook, I found out they were no longer posting to New Zealand or Australia. In fact, they won’t send anything out of any country you order from. You can only order inside one of the…I think it’s fifteen amazon companies around the world…

I tried to send some author copies to my illustrator to check the full-colour children’s books we’ve recently launched and NOPE can’t do it.  However, if I go to the Canadian site (NOT LISTED ABOVE) I can buy a copy at FULL-PRICE?

If they can do this, then why isn’t Canada listed as a Marketplace for…
